What is Flag Football?                                  

Flag Football is a non-contact (there may be incidental contact) variant of football where, instead of tackling players to the ground, the defensive team must remove a flag from the ball carrier to end a down. Flag Football is typically played 5 on 5, 6 on 6 or 7 on 7 and can be tailored to fit an organization's structure and needs. Flag Football is a low cost way to enjoy the sport of football with the only gear being a mouth guard and cleats (both optional but HIGHLY recommended). Why play Flag Football?

With football being a huge part of the TJ community, we wanted to expand the offerings to help keep our kids active and learn new sports. Additionally, there may be some kids who want to play Football but are not interested in tackle. Flag Football also has a greater appeal for a coed sport. 

We have reached out to the Pittsburgh Steelers organization and they have generously agreed to donate jerseys, flag belts and footballs to help us get this program off the ground.

2024 Summer Season Details (Season has ended!)

Registration will be open to kids of the West Jefferson Hills School District only! Kids will be divided into teams based on their current grade as follows:

• K through 2nd grade (Termite)
• 3rd & 4th grade (Junior Varsity)
• 5 & 6th grade (Varsity)

Important Things:
1. The season will be played at 1900 PA-51, Clairton, PA 15025.

2. Season will be June 10 - August 2. 

3. There will be 6 weeks of regular season and 1 week for playoffs.

4. We will have practices and games during the weekdays starting at 6pm. Practices will be for 30 mins and the games will begin at 6:30. 

5. If you would like to be a coach (head or assistant), please upload your clearances to the volunteer section on the TJ Youth Football (Sports Connect) website. It is the same process as previous seasons for coaches.

6. Throughout the season, we will need extra volunteers to set up/ clean up fields before/after games or run our concession table, please just send an email to [email protected]. We will need volunteers this year- the Withers family is not going to be able to do it all again!

7. Can still use more refs - we are trying to condense games to just 1 day, to make it easier for refs to just stay and work as many games as they can. We will be paying $25 per game. Have any interested parties email [email protected] with contact info, please!!!!!

8. The summer season will once again be sponsored by the Steelers and every kid will receive a reversible Steelers NFL Flag jersey as well as an NFL Flag belt.

Volunteers (coaching, referees, other)

Without volunteers, this program will not be possible. Flag Football is a low time commitment and requires no skill or prior experience. If you would like to be a coach, please check the box during the registration of your kid and we will reach out to you. We are looking for at least 2 coaches per team. Additionally, we will need refs and other volunteers to help the season run smoothly. If you would like to help out in any way to make this program a success, please contact [email protected].

All Volunteers will need their child clearances (free) and must submit them prior to the start of the season. If you plan to volunteer please take a few minutes and complete this step now.
